This class is suitable for anyone who would like to become more comfortable with choosing and using lots of color(s) in their work. Learn to trust your own intuitive color sense, and discover new and exciting color combinations. Students will experiment with color chips and strips, placing them on colored background fabrics in a random and/ or planned order, learning about color interactions from this “play”. The result will be a visually interesting quilt top, which may lead to further exploration of the effects and power of color(s) on their surrounding environment. No sewing machines are required for this class.

“This is a Half-day, full day, or two day workshop. Class-specific kits of hand-dyed fabric will be available for purchase from the teacher. Students may add their own fabrics as desired, (hand-dyed/ pre-fused fabric recommended).  Two day workshop further explores and applies color theory and design principles; students will experiment with fabric surface design (paint, stamping, etc.)  Additional fabric is required: [Two- day Kit $55] (students may choose to bring hand-dyed fabrics  in addition to class KIT: pre-fused or bring Pellon Wonder Under )

Tangerine Tropicale III”  quilt is made using the raw edge fusible applique method, with an optional border using strip-fusing or fabric collage. The vibrant colors are sure to warm up any room! You will be amazed at how quickly this top can be put together. Optional border treatments will be demonstrated. Fast, fusible finishing techniques will be presented, and Amazing  Secrets of the “ Chicago School of
Fusing" tips and techniques will be revealed! This unique quilt top is completely constructed without using a sewing machine.

Students will learn the “ Chicago School of Fusing trade secrets” while creating their own unique art quilt using the raw-edge fusible appliqué method. Fusing is a technique in which a fusible product is applied to one side of the fabric with a hot iron; then the fabric is cut into shapes or strips, and arranged and ironed onto a background. This method provides a level of freedom not found in more traditional methods. Students will be amazed at the almost “instant gratification” element! Anne will provide samples of her own work, and discuss design options. The versatility of this method offers endless design possibilities, for all levels of quilters, and fosters personal creativity. Students will design complete quilt top(s) without a sewing machine. Students will learn to design their own repeated block, as well as fast, fusible binding, the pillowcase technique, and fabric collage. Two day class will have the option to continue developing a single quilt top, or create a series of tops while further exploring design techniques

Create your own  “fantasy floral” art quilt top in a design from Anne’s award winning quilt series! The vibrant colors of the appliqué, and the black background creates a dynamic, high contrast visual effect that is very contemporary. Students will be amazed at how quickly this quilt comes together, using “Chicago School of Fusing" tips & techniques.  The wavy edge appliqué pieces are fun and easy to make, using “fancy blade” rotary cutters. Explore the basics of “free-motion” (curved line) quilting, while Anne shares award winning tips of her favorite machine quilting techniques . You will be delighted to learn how to produce quilt designs that appear complicated, with minimal marking. Students will learn to create their own quilting designs, or may choose to try an existing design. Additional subjects covered will include; basting of the quilt, batting choices, finishing and binding, and above all; “Relax and have fun”, and “practice, practice, practice!”.
