This class is suitable for anyone who would like to become more comfortable with choosing and using lots of color(s) in their work. Learn to trust your own intuitive color sense, and discover new and exciting color combinations. Students will experiment with color chips and strips, placing them on colored backqround fabrics in a random and/ or planned order, learning about color interactions from this “play”. The result will be a visually interesting quilt top, which may lead to further exploration of the effects and power of color(s) on their surrounding environment. No sewing machines are required for this class.

This is a full day, or two day workshop. Class-specific kits of hand-dyed fabric will be available for purchase from the teacher. Students may add their own fabrics as desired, (hand-dyed/ pre-fused fabric recommended). In the two day workshop students will have the opportunity to further explore color interaction as they create their own unique quilt tops.

SUPPLY LIST

Kit includes 20-30 different hues of 1-2 inch hand-dyed pre-fused cotton fabric chips or strips AND 2-3 background fabrics (sufficient for several small art quilt tops). Kit cost: $30.00

-------TANGERINE TROPICALE

The Tangerine Tropicale quilt is made using the raw edge fusible appligue method, with an optional border using strip-fusing or fabric collage.The vibrant colors and basic shapes can be arranged in a variety of unique and interesting ways. You will be amazed at how quickly this top can be put together! Pattern available for purchase. Optional border treatments will be demonstrated. Fast, fusible finishing techniques will be presented, and machine quilting will be discussed and demonstrated also. This quilt top can be constructed with or without using a sewing machine. For those interested, quilting and decorative thread embellishment will be part of the full day workshop.

-------PASSION FOR FUSION - ABSTRACT ART QUILT

Students will learn the secrets of building an art quilt using the raw-edge fusible appliqué method. Fusing is a technique in which a fusible product is applied to one side of the fabric with a hot iron; then the fabric is cut into shapes or strips, and arranged and ironed onto a background. This method provides a level of freedom not found in more traditional methods. You will be amazed at the almost “instant gratification” element! Anne will provide samples of her own work, and discuss design options. Templates provided to assist students in the planning of their quilt top, but spontaneous improvisation will be allowed and encouraged, as the flexibility of her approach fosters personal creativity. Students may design and complete quilt top without a sewing machine. Options for fast, fusible finishing of the art quilt will be demonstrated.

Create a “fantasy floral” art quilt top in vibrant hues using the fusible appliqué technique. Students will be amazed at how quickly this quilt goes together, using Wonder Under, and optional fancy blades for their rotary cutters. Each quilt top is a one-of-a-kind creation, due to the unique qualities of Anne’s hand-dyed fabric, and her original pattern.

This class is recommended for beginners through advanced quilters.

No sewing machine is required for this class.

Level of Expertise: confident beginners

Wouldn’t you love to learn fun, unique, timesaving quilting techniques to help you complete all of your quilting projects? If so, then this class is for you! Students will learn the basics of “free-motion”(curved line) quilting. You will be delighted to learn how to quilt designs that appear complicated, with minimal marking. Students will learn to create their own quilting designs, or may choose to try an existing design. Subjects covered will include; basting of the quilt, batting choices, finishing and binding. The use of specialty threads will be discussed and demonstrated as time allows.

SUPPLY LIST
  • Sewing machine in good working order with drop feed dogs required
  • Sewing machine manual; and a good working knowledge of your machine
  • Embroidery or darning foot compatible with your machine (mandatory)
